CompTIA Certification: A Must for a Computer Technician Career

The recent hiring boom has greatly increased the number of IT workers and professionals who apply for a dwindling number of jobs in the market. A single job opening can attract dozens or even hundreds of applicants, ranging from the seasoned veteran sysadmin to the new guy, fresh with his Computer Science degree, ready to make it in the world.

The burden, then, is on the HR department to winnow the applicant pool to a more manageable interview pool. They don't have the time to look at all the resumes in detail, and so - you guessed it - they look to see who has the certifications that match the ones the IT guys requested they put on the job posting.

I say this to quell the naysayers who insist that certifications aren't worth the paper they are printed on; even if they weren't, it would be good to get them just to get your foot in the door. The fact is, however, that certifications are worth quite a bit, and do measure your effectiveness and capability to do a job well as well as provide a solid foundation and knowledge to build upon.
